My 2018 In A Nutshell

Yet another year is coming to an end, and I am unsure what to make of it. As most people in my life have observed, it felt like 2018 was trying to kill us. My 2018 didn’t try to physically ‘take me out’, but my husband wasn’t so lucky.

For those who don’t know, Husband Dearest broke his foot in April, had to have surgery to get all the bones fixed in place, and in 2019 he needs to go back to get all the metal in his foot taken out. Apart from him taking a dive off the stairs, a few friends have commented on what a disaster the year’s been, and I have to agree that it wasn’t the best of times.

Still, when things weren’t falling apart, the year was actually quite exciting.

My 2018 …

Belated Honeymoon

In March, Husband Dearest and I were fortunate enough to go on our belated honeymoon, where we explored Bela Bela and surrounding areas. It was a memorable, once in a lifetime experience. We got to interact with elephants and vervet monkeys, visited a crocodile farm, went on so many game drives it isn’t even funny…

We even went on a horse adventure! Me. I climbed onto a horse and actually stayed on the thing for the entire trail! Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s probably not a big deal for the rest of the world, but I’m actually scared to death of being near horses (in general).

It was a truly special trip, even if we both agreed it was two days too short. 🙂

And then, as fate would have it, 3 days later we were sitting in the emergency room… *le sigh*

Books and Things

Another good thing that happened this year: I released The Night Weaver in June and the companion short story, Within Darkness, in October (although it is no longer available, due to contractual obligations). Though, it’s not nearly as productive as I had hoped to be (I wanted to release 3 novels in 2018), I’m still proud of getting those out after everything.

On the upside, I actually recently submitted a short story to an anthology (it’s been ages since I’ve submitted anything to anyone), but I’m not holding my breath. My 2018 has not been kind, so here’s to hoping that 2019 is going to be my year.  My 2018 In A Nutshell 2

Mozambique Trip

In October, Husband and I were fortunate enough to go on a trip to Mozambique with the office. It was so much fun! 3 Days of lounging around in a beach house, soaking up the sun on a private beach, enjoying some long walks beside crystal clear waters. Ah, yes, I wouldn’t mind returning…

When we weren’t gallivanting around with co-workers, drinking cocktails and eating like Poseidon every night, we watched the ocean waves for hours from the wraparound porch. It was glorious, and we can’t wait to return to Mozambique in the future.

In Conclusion

Yes, my 2018 was a wild ride. There was so many ups and downs, at one point I thought I was going to suffer from whiplash. Thankfully, the year is almost over and I’m already working on my goals for 2019. Though, I don’t make any resolutions (because I hardly ever stick with them), I do have many plans…

I wish you all a very happy New Year, and hope only the best come your way.

Warm regards,

Monique
