What’s New Wednesday #14: It’s Almost Halloween!

It’s Almost Halloween!

Eeep! I love this time of year, especially when everyone gets their horror on. The best shows, books, and films get released, so whoohoo! And yes, I have noticed my overuse of exclamation marks … don’t judge me. It’s almost Halloween, what did you expect? Sheesh. 🤪

Okay, so this week is all about the creepy stuff, the bump-in-the-night stuff, the Oh-Em-Gee! stuff. I have some cool books that I’m adding to my TBR list (some have been out for a while, others are new). There are some great shows that I am obsessing over, and some movies I am anxiously waiting to release. There are other stuff, too … Good stuff … Stuff you totally need to check out, so don’t go anywhere.

The last time I did a What’s New Wednesday post, I mentioned binge-watching some older shows, in order to get ready for an upcoming season. Remember? Well, I caught up with some of them, and started watching the newer seasons … Oh, what wonders await!

Season 2 of Castle Rock is fantastic! Lizzy Caplan, who plays the bestest literary fangirl ever (Annie Wilkes), is exceptional. I really wasn’t sure what to expect, I mean Kathy Bates’ role in Misery was iconic, but Lizzy Caplan really pulled it off. Definitely give this Hulu show a watch if you’re looking for something scary to watch.

Doctor Sleep is also coming out soon (in South Africa, it’ll be out on November 8th), so I’m anxiously anticipating this release. The reviews, thus far, have been great! Also, Husband and I are due for another date night, and what better way to spend some quality time together than at the movies? 🙂

Another show I’ve been meaning to watch is the Two Sentence Horror Stories show from The CW. I’ve always enjoyed those micro-horror stories folks come up with and thought it would be a great little show to get the blood pumping. That being said, I have not heard much on how this show is review-wise …

Seeing as it’s almost Halloween, I’m celebrating by adding some new books to my “immediate TBR” list! Reading is still a bit of a slow-going affair here (I’m making some progress, but sheesh, I’m out of practice), so there’s no telling when I’m going to get to them, but they’re high up on the list …

First up is none other than The Grace Year by Kim Liggett. I’ve heard plenty of rave reviews, the film rights have already been sold, and frankly, I can’t wait to get into this one. Also, that cover speaks to me in ways I can’t really explain.

Next, The Ravenous by Amy Lukavics. Now, recently I actually—FINALLY—got around to reading Daughters onto Devils, and I loved it, so I thought I’d push this one up higher onto my list. I’m hungry for some horror. 😉

I’m actually currently reading The Worst is Yet to Come by S.P. Miskowski, and so far the creepiness is wonderful. I truly like the atmosphere the author has captured, which isn’t an easy feat. Review to come as soon as I’m done.

(Follow me on Goodreads or LibraryThing to keep updated with my reviews)

Around The Web

So, as you all know by now, The Night Weaver was released into the wild (yay!) and I must say it has been doing quite well out there in the big ole world. The first print run sold out within a week of release (I freaked out a few days after hearing the news, because I couldn’t believe it)—the printers are already busy with the next batch, just to keep up with demand!

Other than that, folks have been sending in some gorgeous photos of their copies, which I’ve shared here and there, and they really brighten up my day. 🙂

Thank you to everyone who’s purchased a copy of my book, left reviews, or shared the news around social media! You guys are rock stars! ❤️

Arm Cast Podcast

What's New Wednesday #14: It's Almost Halloween! 10

I recently did a little interview for Armand Rosamillia’s podcast, Arm Cast, where we chatted about books, names, serial killers, and just generally had a lot of fun. It’s almost Halloween, so I think now’s a good time to have a listen: https://open.spotify.com/episode/571e2fD8czlLlOhf4FRtVJ

Pre-Order The Bone Carver

I bet you didn’t think The Bone Carver would be up for pre-order so fast, eh? Well, it is, and you won’t even have to wait too long to get lost in another terrifying tale! This beauty will be released by Vesuvian Books, August 18th, 2020, and I must, once again, thank Marcela Bolivar for her beautiful cover art and Michael J. Canales for the title treatment. It is GORGEOUS! (also, The Bone Carver is currently my background image on my laptop *coughs*)

The Bone Carver (Harrowsgate #2)

For a small New England town, Shadow Grove has an uncanny ability to attract the worst kind of trouble. Not that the residents are too concerned about the various horrors living among them.

As the leaves change color and the weather grows colder, a foul presence is making itself known by leaving peculiar gifts for the students of Ridge Crest High. At first the presents seem harmless—and a rash of accidents seem coincidental—but when seniors Rachel Cleary and her Scottish cousin, Dougal Mackay, find a boneless body in the boiler room, things take an ominous turn.

Something vicious is on the loose in Shadow Grove, and not knowing whether Orion Nebulius will ever return, Rachel has very little hope of anyone making it out alive.

What Else?

I’m sure I’m missing something else to share … If I remember, I’ll include it in my next What’s New Wednesday post. 🙂

Monetization of my Site

Oh! As I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed, I have monetized my site a bit.

Please, don’t run off! It’s not like I’m adding pop-up ads to annoy the living hell out of anyone and everyone who wants to visit my site. It’s just me utilizing my Amazon Associates account. It won’t cost you a thing to click on an image or text-link and buy a book through my site (I just get a little something-something back from Amazon). Also, NONE of my own books are monetized in this way (that’ll just be bad form, IMHO).

The reason I’ve decided to monetize the site a teensy tiny bit is because my reading habit is getting a teensy tiny bit expensive (so, at the end of the day, I’m actually supporting other authors through doing this, too).

I don’t get much per purchase, a few cents here and there, so I won’t be able to retire anytime soon. It’s really just to buy more books, because a girl can never have too many books. 🙂

Don’t worry, though, I’ll always put up a little disclaimer on a post if it’s been monetized (it’ll be in orange—like I did higher up on this post, right beneath the book images).

And that’s it for this week.

November is going to be busy (NaNoWriMo is coming up, remember?), but I’ll try to check in now and then, if only to babble and ramble and waste some precious time. 🙂 I’m a rebel. Hehehe

Happy almost Halloween, everyone!

Monique
