What’s New Wednesday #20: Obligatory Valentine’s Day Post

Wow! I haven’t realized how long it’s been since I’ve done a What’s New Wednesday post. A lot has happened in my personal life and professionally. I’m coming up completely blank on the former (it’s been a while), and sadly, I can’t divulge too much on the latter yet. So, most of this What’s New Wednesday will just be about touching base, I think.

That being said, there’s an important announcement I need to make before we get on with this week’s obsessions:

SUPER IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Recently, it’s come to my attention that I have spread myself too thin and that my health was suffering as a result. While, in my youth, I was able to work 19 hours a day and be okay with it, I can’t keep up with that schedule anymore. As a result, I had to pull out of a few projects and/or push the schedule a bit.

  • The novella I said would be published in March as a free read will no longer be published. I feel it still needs work, and I don’t have the time to tackle it now. It will be released one day, though. Don’t worry.
  • I will also not be part of the Soul’s Day boxed-set anymore. I’m really miffed about that, but due to time constraints and my other responsibilities, I simply wouldn’t have been able to do a good job there.

I’m incredibly sorry that I let everyone down in this regard, and hopefully I’ll be able to make it up at some point. But keep your eyes open for this boxed set. There are some great authors involved and you’ll be thoroughly entertained. 🙂

What’s New Wednesday

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, let’s get on to what I’ve been doing lately (besides work):

Books

While I’ve been trying to squeeze in some time in between everything to read, it’s been slow-going. I told you it would happen … Still, somehow, some miraculous way, I’ve been able to get some reading in.

First off, I’m currently loving Laura Kenyon’s Desperately Ever After trilogy. It is hilarious. Imagine what would happen after the Disney princesses got their happily ever after. Now, throw in some Sex in the City and sprinkle it with Desperate Housewives, and voila. These three books (well, I’ve only recently started book #3) is an addictive, laugh out loud, trilogy, and it’s addictive as hell. Definitely get your hands on these books if you’re looking for something humorous.

Usually, just before I go to bed, I find myself reading a few pages of Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix. Now, I’m sure not everyone is into non-fiction, but I can’t believe I’ve missed so many classic horror novels through the ages. I’m making notes, and will get my hands on the books I believe I’ll enjoy when I have a chance. But if you’re looking for a book to shine some light on what great reads you’ve missed, this is the one you need in your life.

Lastly, I’m listening to The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson in preparation for Season 2 of the Netflix show. Yes, I know it won’t follow the book to the letter. I also have no idea when it’s coming out, truth be told, but I want to scratch this book off my 50 Must-Read Horror Books list.

Films/TV Shows

What's New Wednesday #20: Obligatory Valentine's Day Post 11

It recently occurred to me that Husband and I haven’t watched the entire Paranormal Activity franchise yet. So, for a few precious hours every night, we’ve been cuddling up in front of the TV and revisiting these flicks. It’s been such a help, just to unwind for a bit, before I have to get back to work. And luckily, Husband humors me with my horror film fixations, so it’s really good.

A show I’ve been dying to watch is Locke & Key, the much-anticipated comic adaptation by Joe Hill. I’m hoping we can maybe get to watch it by this weekend, so don’t post any spoilers!

Valentine’s Day Prep

What's New Wednesday #20: Obligatory Valentine's Day Post 13

First off, Husband and I aren’t exactly big on Valentine’s Day. We don’t go out or exchange gifts, simply because we’re not into that mushy-lovey-gooey stuff. That’s not how it works for us. Well, okay, sometimes he’ll bring me flowers on the 14th of February, which is nice, but I won’t divorce him if he forgets. The one thing I do every Valentine’s Day, however, is to make a special dinner.

Now, this year, I have my menu already planned out, but I have my fallback, too. And my fallback menu is really good. So, I thought I’d share it with everyone who’s struggling to come up with an idea. 🙂

Try out Alexandra’s Kitchen’s Valentine’s Day menu. It’s a three-course meal in a step by step blog post, and it’s delicious!

Bucatini Carbonara with Leeks & Lemon | Arugula & Endive Salad | Double Chocolate Cake.

Remember, presentation is as important as the actual food. So, check out my Valentine’s Table Settings Pinterest Board for some inspiration on how to make your table look pretty, too. 🙂

And that’s it for this week.

I know, it’s not as exciting as usual, but hopefully that’ll change in the near future. 🙂

Have a great week!

Monique
