It’s time for a brand spanking new edition of What’s New Wednesday! Yes, I know it’s been a while, but give me a break here. We’ve had an interesting few weeks around the world, and I—like many people—have been left somewhat dazed and confused by it all.
Anywho, I’m not here to talk about things beyond our control. You can watch the news for that. Instead, let’s get into all of my cool obsessions this week—there are so many books, shows, and games I want to gush over.
This is going to be a great Wednesday! I can just feel it in my bones …
What’s New Wednesday
Books
You’ll notice I’m getting into more science fiction and adventure type of reads (I go through my phases like everyone else), so I have a great line-up I’m itching to read.
Then, it’s on to Children of the Fifth Sun and Children of the Fifth Sun: Echelon by Gareth Worthington, so I can be ready for when the third book releases later this year. It looks like fun reads, with a lot of research behind the story. I’m curious to see how the author managed to add various mythologies into these books. Check out the website for more info: https://www.childrenofthefifthsun.com/
Sleeping Giants (Themis Files #1) by Sylvain Neuvel is what I’ll be starting sometime next week, depending on my schedule. The trilogy (yes, I’ll also be reading Waking Gods (Themis Files #2) and Only Human (Themis Files #3)) seems like a bit of a sci-fi mystery with a weird Pacific Rim type of vibe to it. I don’t know how to explain the synopsis entirely, but I think these books will be a good way to spend my down time and get back into sci-fi.
TV Shows
Outlander‘s fifth season is in full swing, and as a die-hard fan of the series, I have been dying to watch it. With work taking up a lot of time, however, I’ve saved up enough episodes to binge over the weekend … So, yay! Gotta get my Scottish fix soon, ye ken?
I’ve also been keen on binge-watching Project Blue Book‘s second season, which is actually so freaking good. The casting is excellent, the plot is so intriguing, and yes, it’s very much this generation’s The X-Files. Definitely give this one a watch if you haven’t already.
Games
Ah, yes, we’ve been spending a lot of our down time in the Magic: The Gathering Arena lately. 🙂 What can I say? Well, it’s a great way to unwind when you just need to forget about the real world.
Magic: The Gathering is a strategy card game, in case you were wondering. The Arena, however, makes it possible to play online with folks around the world. What’s more, the artwork is fantastic! Better yet, though, the game is free. Be warned: Magic: The Gathering is addictive once you get the hand of how it works (Husband and I’ve been playing MTG for over sixteen years now, so we knew what to expect going in), so don’t start playing unless you have a few hours to waste. *wink*
And that’s all I have for you this What’s New Wednesday, but don’t stress! I’m busy typing up a “Curb your Boredom” type of post for all my lovely readers who’re stuck in quarantine. I have a new Friday Favorites post in the works, too. Oh, and I’ll be doing more bookish posts, because writers are struggling in these dire times.
In the meantime, remember to be kind, be safe, and look after yourself and others.
We’re all in this together.
Love ya!
