2020 Spring Reading List

I’ve gotten my 2020 Spring Reading List in order and thought now was as good as any time to share it with the world. I just realized the last time I did one of these was in 2019 with My Winter Reading List! Whaaaat? I’ll have to try and update you guys on what I’m reading more often, it seems.

Okay, let’s start now. 🙂 You’ll notice this season’s got a bit of a mixture of reads, different genres and such, but I’ve had some of these books on my Kindle for literally years and, in my opinion, it’s really time to get them read.

So, let’s stop dawdling and get on with what I’m reading.

Way back when, a friend convinced me to give the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout a go, so I bought them, but one of the main reasons I’ve not read this series yet is because I absolutely hate the covers. I know, I know, don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s a golden rule and whatnot, but I can’t help it. The covers seriously put me off from the start. Nevertheless, I think I’ve grown enough as a human being to put that aside and just get lost in, what I hear, is a really good story. So, I’m going to give it a go. 🙂

The Madman’s Daughter trilogy by Megan Shepherd has also been out forever and I still haven’t had time to read it. After evaluating what I have on my Kindle and what I want to read this spring, I realized the first two books are already sitting there, waiting … for freaking years. I still have to buy the last book, though. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to reading this trilogy because it’s based on my favorite Jules Verne story!

I’m such a fan of Charlie Higson‘s The Enemy series that I simply couldn’t get it over my heart to read the last book when it initially came out. I wanted the story to go on. Alas, all good things must come to an end and that’s why I’ve decided to add The End to my reading list. *sigh* It is such a great series, though, perfect for young adults who love zombie books.

Mystery/Thriller

All of the mystery/thriller books I have lined up are new acquisitions. The Girl in the Video by Michael David Wilson is one I recently added to my Goodreads TBR list, mostly because it feels very now. I’m hoping for some psychological terror here, but we’ll see (I tried not to read the synopsis too closely).

Good Girl Bad Girl by Michael Robotham is actually the first book in, I guess, a series. It’s about a girl with no past and another girl who gets killed and somehow Girl #1 knows something about Girl #2. It looks good, and I’m in the mood for twisty books, so I thought I’d give it a try. 🙂

I’ve been itching to read The Leaving by Tara Altebrando for ages, but haven’t been entirely in the mood for anything too heavy (and this one sounds a bit heavy). It’s the first one on my TBR this spring, so I can’t wait to get lost in this tale.

Horror

Some horror books I’m reading includes:

True Crime by Samantha Kolesnik, which looks like a gritty horror-crime novel with murder sprees and such. It sounds like a fun read to me, and I’m surprised I haven’t started on it yet. The book’s just been here gathering metaphorical dust on my Kindle (clearly I have a book buying problem and an organizational issue on my Kindle). So, I thought there’s no time like the present, especially since I’m ready to get in the Halloween mood.

The Chill by Scott Carson is a new buy. I saw it whilst browsing on Amazon the other day, and it just grabbed my attention. I’m not entirely sure if it’s actually more Sci-Fi than Horror (perhaps a combination of both?), but I’m ready to get into it. This one will have to wait a while, though, seeing as I’m currently still getting over winter, and the cold weather was a nightmare this year. LOL!

I’ve been meaning to get into another Stephen Graham Jones book for a while now, and seeing as this one only recently released, I thought what the hell. Let’s get it. So, The Night of the Mannequins is definitely one of the first ones I am reading this Spring. Gotta get my horror on, you know? 😉

If I Have Time

Okay, so the reason I’m not placing the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo at the top of my list is because I’ve not been in a fantasy mood lately. I know it’s a good series, and I really want to read the books, I’m just hoping that I’ll get out of my fantasy reading slump soon so I can actually enjoy the experience. So, I’m adding this to the list just in case that happens. 🙂

One can only read so many books in a specific time, especially when your schedule looks like mine. I really want to read both The Bright Lands by John Fram and The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix, too. I’m going to try my absolute best to get to them. Pinkie swear.

The Bright Lands by John Fram is a bit of a crime thriller, which—as most of my readers know—makes me all gooey on the inside.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is Grady Hendrix‘s latest novel (and yes, I’m a huuuuuuge fan) and I’m hoping to get all of my reading done so I can see what the hype is about with this one. I don’t doubt that this is well-deserved hype, though. Sometimes, the hype is worth it.

And there you have my 2020 Spring Reading List. 20 books in 3 months seems doable, right? Considering some are series’ (which I tend to fly through), I’m hoping to actually read more and maybe get my Goodreads reading goals back on par. A girl can dream. LOL! I’ll update y’all if I do get through them all and/or buy new reading material.

But you’ll have to excuse me now, I see the sun is shining outside and I’m soooo ready to go outside with my Kindle and read like it’s nobody’s business. 🙂

Have a wonderful day, guys!

Monique
