What’s New Wednesday #19: Murder, Music & Other ‘M’ Words

It’s time for a brand new What’s New Wednesday post, and this week I’m covering murder, music, and other ‘m’ words. Yes, folks, my favorite letter of the alphabet finally gets its own post. I mean, all the best words start with ‘m’—murder, mystery, music, magic … Oh, and let’s not forget: Monique! 🙂

Now, this week is a bit different to my usual What’s New Wednesday posts, because I haven’t had much time to read … *sob* So, I have no books to highlight this week. 🙁 But I’ll try to keep to my routine as much as possible.

So, let’s get into this week’s obsessions!

Murder, Music, and Other ‘M’ Words

TV Shows

This week sees two brand new TV shows I’ve been obsessing about!

First we have Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, which is so freaking good. It’s in many ways like the Angelina Jolie/Denzel Washington movie, The Bone Collector, but completely different, too. Totally worth a watch if you’re in need of a new serial killer show.

Someone suggested on Twitter that I give The Outsider a shot, and phew! It’s great! Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name (one that I haven’t read), we have another crime-type show, but there’s apparently a supernatural twist of some kind. Three episodes in and I can’t wait to find out exactly what’s really going on. It’s definitely worth your time.

Music

Last week saw Eminem drop a new album, named: Music to be Murdered by. Yes, I’m a die-hard Eminem fan. Can’t you tell? 🙂 Well, what makes this album special is the homage Eminem shows to none other than Alfred Hitchcock, which every single horror aficionado loved. I mean, don’t be surprised if Eminem suddenly starts getting invitations to horror cons. He kind of just guaranteed himself a fan base for life (and possibly beyond). Apart from that, though, the CD is a bit different to what I’m used to from him, but it’s not bad either. I’ll have to listen to it again just to make sure. 🙂

Podcasts

I’ve not had a lot of time to indulge in my usual hobbies, since January has been full of editing tasks. I have clients’ projects to fix up, my own projects in various stages of editing, and while I usually prefer editing in silence, sometimes the quiet gets to me. Luckily, I love podcasts about murder. Give me a true crime podcast and Monique is super happy.

Last year, I started listening to Root of Evil, which revolves around the Black Dahlia murder (a case that’s always fascinated me), but had to stop for some reason or another. It’s good, though, which is why I picked it right back up. Definitely give this one a listen if you love theories about the Black Dahlia, which remains unsolved.

Another unsolved true crime case I’ve been fascinated with for most of my life, and one I’m excited to start listening to is: The Killing of JonBenet: The Final Suspects. Who killed the little girl? I’ve always had my theories, but I’m not married to any of them. If there is new evidence, some proper speculation, well, I want to hear about it.

Magical Updates

Moving on to some other ‘m’ words this What’s New Wednesday, here are some magical updates on the writing front.

The Night Weaver

Since my last What’s New Wednesday post, we’ve heard that The Night Weaver made it onto the 2019 Screencraft Cinematic Book Quarterfinal list! *happy dance* I’m incredibly honored to be recognized alongside all those other authors and their works. I mean, just look at that list. Wow!

The Bone Carver

Pre-Order Your Copy Today!

The release for The Bone Carver is scheduled for August 18th, 2020, so we’re hard at work perfecting the much-anticipated sequel of The Night Weaver. In other words, I’ve received the edits back from my wonderful editor! There are some rewrites needed, general revisions, and I remembered (after submitting the MS) I forgot something crucial to the series. So, if you don’t see me around, I’m probably working on this. 🙂

Novella #1

I haven’t released the title to the first novella in this bite-sized YA series yet, but I have said that it will be a free read. Everything is almost done, thank heavens, and I’ll be releasing it in March/April to the masses. What you can expect of this particular book is a folk-horror/cosmic horror mash-up (I have no idea how it’ll go down with readers, to be honest), and it’ll be a standalone (as will all the books). I will, however, say that the first book sets up what happens in the next ones.

It should be noted that this is a pet project of mine, just a little something to do in between other projects. 🙂 After all, I can’t sit still for too long.

Muti Nation Rewrites

Yes, I’m still calling it Muti Nation for now, but as I’ve said, the book will be getting a new title.

As for the rewrites … Well, I’m starting it as soon as I’m done with this post. It won’t take too long (I sincerely hope), but I will be adding a new chapter or two and changing things up a bit. Hold your fingers crossed for me to get this one done and sent through to my agent by the end of the month!

Now that I’ve covered murder, music, and some other ‘m’ words, I think I can move on to some other work. As you can see from this What’s News Wednesday post, I’m pretty swamped, so if I don’t check in for a while, just know it’s because I’m conjuring up all the words!

Have a superb week,

Monique
