What’s New Wednesday #10: And Then She Rested

This Wednesday, I’m all about the resting and chilling and enjoying all the things. Since The Bone Carver (The Night Weaver #2) is done and at my publisher, I thought I would take a little breather and just catch up on everything I haven’t had time to do. This includes reading, watching some TV, baking, and dressing up for no reason.

I’m sure you’re eager for me to get into what I’m obsessed with this Wednesday, so let’s get on with it:

Books

For the rest of this week, I’m sitting back and enjoying a bit of leisure reading. I have a mountain of books I want to get through, but for now I’m taking things slow, taking my time to absorb each and every glorious word. First up on the list is Suspicious Minds (Stranger Things #1), which everyone’s been gushing about since its release.

I’m a fan of the show, so I’m sure it’s a good one. Then, it’s me and another fan fave, Teeth in the Mist by Dawn Kurtagich. I’ll be honest, I have no idea what to expect with it, but the cover drew me in and I sometimes like going in blind. 🙂

Last, but hopefully not least, is The Willows by Algernon Blackwood—a horror classic. Again, going in a bit blind here, too, but it’s on my 50 Must-Read Horror Books list, so it needs to be read at some point.

TV Shows

I was under the impression that I had a lot more catching up to do on my TV shows than I actually have, so it’s a meager selection for me at this point. We’re almost done watching Carnival Row, which is a bit of a genre-bending show. It’s excellent, especially since it has Fae, gothic elements, and a mystery at its core. I quite like it. Unbelievable, on the other hand, is a heavier show with some great performances by the actors. I’ve been hooked from the start! The show is based on a true crime case about a serial rapist, who thought he could outsmart the police (and almost did), and I have to say it was riveting.

(Fun Fact About Me: Yes, I do enjoy the psychology behind serial killers, but I’ve never had the slightest fascination in rapists. Rapists are all the same, in my opinion, and can easily be grouped into specific categories, so usually I just don’t follow those true crime cases.)

Anyway, I also want to watch Marianne, which I’ve been hearing about, but I need to be in the mood for foreign shows, so I’ll put that one on the back-burner until I’m ready for subtitles (I hear there isn’t a dubbed version, which is okay, but then I really need to be in the mood to read fast).

Podcasts

So, we’re currently listening to The Clearing, which is a fascinating investigative journalism podcast where the daughter of a serial killer tells the story of how she basically led police to her father. It’s on episode 9 now, I think (we haven’t listened that far yet), but if you want something for your commute, you have to listen to this. It’s super good.

Wednesday Thoughts: In the Kitchen

What's New Wednesday #10: And Then She Rested 7

If you follow me on Twitter, you might’ve seen my recent tweet about the mulberry tree on the neighboring plot. No? Well, firstly, you should probably follow me. Secondly, here’s a quick catch-up: Basically, I’m waiting for that massive tree’s fruit to ripen so I can make a lifetime’s supply of mulberry jam. I’ll post some pics when that finally happens.

On another note: If anyone would be so kind as to share a traditional, tried and tested, real American cornbread recipe … that’ll be super awesome. Over the past couple of years, I’ve tested a few recipes I got off the internet, but I’m not even sure if real cornbread should be sweet or not. *shrugs* A little help, please? Promise, I won’t share your recipe with anyone if you share it with me, I just want to taste real American cornbread. You can get in touch with me via the Contact Page. 🙂

Actually, I’m looking for new recipes in general. So, if you have a recipe you think I’ll love (vegetarian or not—I’m not picky), send it over. I’ll be happy to swap you with some of mine.

In Conclusion

The Night Weaver HWA badge

Don’t forget to pre-order your copy of The Night Weaver! It’s coming October 15th, 2019, from Vesuvian Books and you want it … Believe me, you want that book if you’re into YA dark fantasy. That book is so friggin’ pretty now, and it’s going to look GORGEOUS beside The Bone Carver. *wink*

Have a wonderful week!
